Gas Hydrate Project in South China Sea
In the morning of Nov. 23, 2017, the CNPC Offshore Engineering Co.,Ltd. general manager Mr. Peng Fei and his 6 persons delegation visited STARSE Energy and Technology (Group) Co., Ltd. Beijing headquarter office. The chairman of STARSE group Mr. Yi Huian welcomed the visit of delegation and reported the natural gas hydratesproject core technology on sand control. The general manager Mr. Peng praised the dedication and innovation spirit of STARSE group. He recognized the high quality products from STARSE group and expressed his appreciation on the significant contribution of STARSE’s core technology on sand control application in the South China Sea natural gas hydrates trial run project.
The natural gas hydrates, also known as "combustible ice", is an ice-like crystalline substance formed by natural gas and water under high pressure and low temperature. The pilot project was in the area of the Shenhu Waters, and the reservoir was 203 to 277 meters underground below the sea level of 1266 meters, which belongs to the high argillaceous siltstone reservoir. The exploitation of gas hydrate in the high argillaceous siltstone reservoir is recognized as a worldwide problem in geology, and one major problem is sand control. There were two failed attempts for the gas hydrate trial run project overseas due to the failure on sand control requirement. STARSE Energy and Technology (Group) Co., Ltd. LTD., as a major contractor to participate in the project and grasped the nettle and actively cooperate with the General Contractor CNPC Offshore Engineering Co., LTD., developed a unique high argillaceous siltstone reservoir exploitation of new TD screen for the gas hydrate. Meanwhile, the lower completion operation had been independently completed by STARSE. On May 10th, gas hydrate was successful operated and implemented for 60 days, setting the world record for continuous exploration, and accumulative production reached more than 30.9×104cubic meters of gas, verifying the sand control idea is scientific and validity of sand control process and achieving the desired effect. This trial run is a great success and a great influence, means that China have achieved a major breakthrough in the discovery of gas hydrates exploration and development theory of gas hydrates and the whole process was a major breakthrough in core technology, including a new type of TD screen and the integration of form a complete set of new technology of sand control completion developed by STARSE Energy and Technology (Group) Co., Ltd. LTD.
After the meeting, the general manager Mr. Peng, on behalf of CNPC Offshore Engineering co., LTD., awarded the honorary certificate and banner of "Outstanding Contribution Service Provider" to STARSE Group. The gas hydrates project management team members of CNPC Offshore Engineering co., LTD. also attended the meeting.
